Psychodynamic counselling or psychotherapy is effective in allowing you to make positive changes to your life, so you can deal with any overwhelming issues that are causing you emotional pain, unhappiness, or stress in the present. Perhaps you’re feeling trapped or blocked by the past, feeling stuck in survival mode with old patterns that keep resurfacing. Maybe you are recently grieving from a loss of some kind or can’t make sense of relationships, or emotions. You might feel a general flatness or overwhelmed with feelings of depression, and anxiety. Victoria provides a non-judgemental, inclusive space to explore these difficult parts, thoughts, and feelings to gain greater understanding.
Victoria works with you to encourage self-awareness and to understand the relationship you have with yourself and others. Noticing patterns of relating, self-beliefs, thought patterns, defence mechanisms, protective factors, and feelings, and where they might originate from. Understanding their effect on the you in the here and now, and what can change to live more comfortably in the present.
Her approach combines using different techniques associated with Psychodynamic theories, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Transactional Analysis, Internal Family Systems and The Rewind Technique for trauma and PTS/PTSD, in an empathic way to support each client in what is best for them. Victoria will use a wide range of different modalities at any time dependant on the clients’ needs. She is trauma informed and takes care to keep the client’s safety at the centre of all work.
Victoria has focused her training on Trauma, Sex, Gender and Relationship diversity and Neurodiversity and has extensive experience working in the areas of suicide, self-harm, chronic pain, anxiety, low self-esteem, grief and loss, relationship difficulties and depression.
She is also a qualified Yoga teacher and Yoga therapist specialising in Trauma. I often use elements of Neuroscience and Somatic work too, to help with understanding that the mind and body are connected.
Victoria believes that therapy should be completely non-discriminatory and collaborative, working with a LGBTQ+ and neurodiverse affirmative approach. She has experience working with gender, sex and relationship diversity, trans and questioning people, and their families. Victoria’s pronouns are she/her.
She knows how hard it can be to reach out to take the first step when you need support. She can provide a non-judgemental, inclusive, affirmative, and confidential space to explore these difficult thoughts and feelings to gain greater understanding.
